I bought a new crochet pattern last Wednesday before leaving the LYS after my last felted bag class. It’s the Fiber Trends Crocheted Crusher Hat. I bought some Berroco Blackstone Tweed in Plum Island¬†for the hat. I did a few rounds on the hat on Wednesday night when I got home. I had it finished by lunch time on Saturday. At least I haven’t forgotten how to crochet since it’s been so long since I picked a crochet project up.

The hat is an upcoming class at the Yarn Gallery. But since the project is rated at the Advanced Beginner level (I consider myself between intermediate and experienced according to YG’s levels), and having done a dozen or so amigrumi plus a handful of hats, I figured this would be no problem for me. Besides, I didn’t want to take a spot in the class when I know the techniques used in the hat. It’s very basic. Crochet in the round (continuous rounds), increasing, single crochet and slip stitches.

I stopped by the LYS after work with a question on my sock that I’m working on and took the hat in with me. I carried everything in my nicely felted bag from the other class I was taking. I ended up getting my picture taken with the hat on and holding my bag. I guess the picture is going to end up posted on their blog.

Really, is it that weird? June 7, 2010

Earlier today I was sitting at CarSense waiting for my car. I was getting an oil change so it was a quick visit. Instead of sitting there for 30 minutes or so staring into space or playing with my Blackberry, I grabbed a small bag out of my car with a crochet project in it. (I’m glad I did because the news channel that was on the TV in the waiting area was showing a news channel that I don’t particularly like) This is the project that always stays in the car so at times like this, I have something to keep me occupied while waiting. I usually never draw any weird looks from anybody. Even sitting and crocheting at the gym between classes.

But today, an older lady kept staring at me. Not a normal stare either, but one that said “why on earth would you do that out in public?” I was watching her out of the corner of my eye and I swear at one point she snapped a picture on her cell phone.

Honestly, is it so weird to be crocheting or knitting out in public?

Here’s what I was working on……
